Angel and the Love Mongers: The Humanist Queen (Rock Snob)

Angel and the Love Mongers do a serviceable tribute to Morrissey (“What Do I Know?” and “Speak Straight to Me or Die”), Depeche Mode (“Sideways”), The Cure, and other depressed ’80s bands, but with more emphasis on guitars than their forebears’ synth-driven work. Nothing especially groundbreaking here, and to be fair it could have come off quite poorly. But at the end of the day you’d probably just as soon listen to Violator or Wish and get the real thing.
