Special Issue Takes On Sexism and Feminism in the Music Industry, Tackles the Election, and Features Amanda Palmer on the Cover

Under the Radar is excited to announce the full details of our 2016 Protest Issue (out September, October, and into November), which is out now both digitally and on newsstands. We’ve done a Protest Issue every U.S. Presidential election year since 2004 and as before this issue features articles examining the intersection of music and politics and photo shoots with musicians holding protest signs of their own making. Then in mid-October we will be launching our charity Protest Auction, in which we auction off all the protest signs in the issue, with all profits going to the American Cancer Society. More

Earlier this evening, iconic NPR show This American Life brought its radio program to the stage of the Skirball Center in New York—and to theaters across the U.S., Canada, and Australia.In addition to a troop of modern dancers, tales of Tig Notaro’s celebrity encounters, and David Sedaris looking particularly made up for the occasion (no spoilers –there’s a repeat performance this Tuesday and portions will end up on the radio), was a short film by Mike Birbiglia. By any conceivable measure, Keegan-Michael Key and Mike Birbiglia are comedians at the top of their games. Key is fresh off a year which saw him wrap up his hit Comedy Central sketch show, Key & Peele; in which he was invited by President Obama to perform at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and is now headlining comedies. Birbiglia recently completed the run on his acclaimed one-man, Off-Broadway show, and is now releasing his second feature as a filmmaker, Don’t Think Twice, to rave reviews. More
