Coachella Announces Line-Up, Includes a Reformed Jesus and Mary Chain

Coachella have announced the line-up for this year’s festival, which will as usual take place at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio California. This year the festival will be spread across three days instead of two. The three headliners are Björk, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and a reformed Rage Against the Machine. Perhaps the most exciting addition to the line-up is a reformed Jesus and Mary Chain, who haven’t played together since their split in 1999!

Here are the bands that Under the Radar are most excited about playing Coachella: !!!, Air, Lily Allen, Arcade Fire, Björk, Blonde Redhead, Jarvis Cocker, CSS, The Decemberists, Faithless, Fields, Girl Talk, The Good The Bad and The Queen, Grizzly Bear, Happy Mondays, Hot Chip, Interpol, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Kaiser Chiefs, LCD Soundsystem, Konono No. 1, The New Pornographers, Peaches, Peter Bjorn and John, Pop Levi, Sonic Youth, Sparklehorse, Regina Specktor, and Tilly and the Wall.

We’re much less excited about these bands: Arctic Monkeys, The Feeling, Jack’s Mannequin, Klaxons, The Kooks, Mando Diao, Nickle Creek, Noisettes, Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tapes ‘n Tapes, We Are Scientists, and Gillian Welch.

And while we are generally excited about the line-up, over here at Under the Radar we would like to take a moment to point out some of the bands we would have also loved to have seen on the bill: Belle & Sebastian, Camera Obscura, The Divine Comedy, Feist, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Emily Haines, I’m From Barcelona, Loney Dear, Love Is All, Mew, Midlake, Modest Mouse, The Pipettes, The Raconteurs, The Shins, Super Furry Animals (or Gruff Rhys solo), Viva Voce, Voxtrot, and Yo La Tengo. And whatever happened to The Police, who rumour had it were reforming to play Coachella. Coachella's publicists do confirm that other bands will probably still be announced and added to the line-up, and last year Madonna, Kanye West, and Daft Punk were all late additions.

But hey, who’s complaining, no doubt we’ll still be struggling to fit in all the great bands we want to see this year. And did we mention that The Jesus and Mary Chain are reforming for this?!
