Headlights:
Keep Your Friends and Loves Close. Keep the
City You Call Home Closer. EP
(Polyvinyl)
This limited edition EP collects seven tracks recorded live during tour
stops at WOXY.com, Indie 103.1, and Daytrotter.com. Both Headlights’
debut, The Enemies EP, and last year’s stunning full-length,
Kill Them With Kindness, are well represented here in what are
mostly sparser versions of the originals. The best track, “Owl Eyes,”
from Kill Them, is a slowed-down rendition with tender, sweet
vocals by co-lead singer Erin Fein. The other songs included find the
band calm and relaxed, providing a fine backdrop for Fein and other vocalist
Tristan Wraight’s light harmonies. The previously unreleased, “This
One,” is pleasant if somewhat underwhelming, but overall Keep
Your Friends is a welcome complement to the band’s already
fine body of work.
