"The tanner didn't wear off for a few days. So Halloween was pretty long for me that year." - Caveman's Matt Iwanusa

We sent out the same set of Halloween-related questions to a bunch of different musicians. All Halloween week we are posting their responses. Here are some spooky answers from Caveman, Gap Dream, Les Jupes, and Chaos Chaos (formerly known as Smoosh).
Caveman
Matt Iwanusa
What was the best Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the best Halloween you ever had?
I dressed up like someone who likes to tan a lot so I bought a ton of self-tanner and slicked my hair back. The tanner didn’t wear off for a few days. So Halloween was pretty long for me that year.
What was the worst Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the worst Halloween you ever had?
When I was a kid I dressed up like a New York Ranger. It was fun and all with the fake missing teeth but walking up and down Park Slope stoops with rollerblades on was a real pain after a few hours.
What do you plan to dress up as for Halloween this year?
I’ll be flying to Iceland on Halloween this year so maybe I can make something nice out of blankets and pillows.
What have you always wanted to dress up as for Halloween but never had the guts and/or resources to pull off?
The Little Mermaid.
What’s your favorite scary movie?
Texas Chainsaw Massacre was always a fun one to watch. Lately I’ve been really freaked out by The Grudge.
What’s your favorite spooky song?
“Monster Mash!”
Gap Dream
Gabriel Fulvimar
What was the best Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the best Halloween you ever had?
I was a gnome last year—it kicked ass.
What was the worst Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the worst Halloween you ever had?
Probably that one time I went as a dust mite.
What do you plan to dress up as for Halloween this year?
David Yarritu from late ABC.
What have you always wanted to dress up as for Halloween but never had the guts and/or resources to pull off?
Silver facemask Cobra Commander.
What’s your favorite scary movie?
Halloween.
What’s your favorite spooky song?
“Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell.
Les Jupes
Mike Falk
What was the best Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the best Halloween you ever had?
The Shins and The Standard played one Halloween years ago and I rented a Napoleon costume from a theater supplier for the show. It was pretty great.
What was the worst Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the worst Halloween you ever had?
Pretty sure the cardboard robot costume my parents made for me in grade two was the worst. Tin foil that kept tearing, buttons that wouldn’t stay on, freezing cold…
What do you plan to dress up as for Halloween this year?
Not sure yet—seeing as my wife is named Robin I might go as Batman.
What have you always wanted to dress up as for Halloween but never had the guts and/or resources to pull off?
I’ve always wanted to be an eight-foot-tall Gumby. Giant platform shoes hidden in a rubbery green costume. That would be funny.
What’s your favorite scary movie?
Never really been a scary movie watcher. Does 28 Days Later count? I liked that one.
What’s your favorite spooky song?
Damien Jurado’s “Air Show Disaster.” He nails it. What a lyric: “another nice day for an air show disaster.” Look out.
Chaos Chaos
Chloe Saavedra
What was the best Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the best Halloween you ever had?
Definitely dressing up as a sumo wrestler.
What was the worst Halloween costume you ever dressed up in and/or what was the worst Halloween you ever had?
The worst/most hilarious Halloween costumes we wore when we were 10 and 12 were these homemade replications of our own cartoon characters called Pumps, which we were dangerously obsessed with. We even had them in our artwork on our first album—no idea why people let us do that. Our parents gave us complete creative freedom on the costumes, and the result was terrible. They were these huge Styrofoam cut-outs with clown wigs and drawn on faces. Super weird.
What do you plan to dress up as for Halloween this year?
Nicki Minaj or Saturn, but Saturn will effect my mobility so….yeah, probably Nicki Minaj.
What have you always wanted to dress up as for Halloween but never had the guts and/or resources to pull off?
I’d have to get a bunch of friends to do it too, but a bunch of sperm, just roaming the streets.
What’s your favorite scary movie?
Scream! And Psycho of course.
What’s your favorite spooky song?
We did this hilarious Halloween song when we were super-young featuring Beck, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and some other great artists, it’s called “Do They Know It’s Halloween?” by NAHPI. If you’re talking more serious spooky, there’s Bernard Herrmann, who does all the Hitchcock scores. Amazing.
