Darren Hanlon: Hello Stranger
(Drive-IN Records)

Long after listening to Hello Stranger, the strong charming debut album by Aussie Darren Hanlon, his infectious childlike words repeatedly play in my mind. This debut offers 10 light tracks that inspire the ever so timid to uncontrollably take part in the intense thumb tapping, stoplight steering wheel dance. The occasional uses of the violin, piano, and the banjo are three instrumental parts that carried this debut album to a more serious level along the lines of pure musical innocence.

Frida Eklunds’ voice weaved in with Darren's guitar and witty lyrics on "Cast of Thousands", is somewhat reminiscent of the early days of Belle and Sebastian.

Darren Hanlon's combination of his light voice and the usage of violins on "Operator...get me Sweden" allows for a strong sense of melodical honesty. "Operator...get me Sweden" would arguably have to be the most promising track that this album offers; I had it on repeat for days. Operator...get me more of Darren Hanlon!
