You can read the full article on The Warlocks on page 16 of Issue 4 of Under the Radar. Below are a few quotes from our interview with lead Warlock Bobby Hecksher that didn’t make it in the interview, as well as some extra photos of the band from our shoot with them one Sunday afternoon in a downtown LA alley in front of The Smell club, as a local homeless man peed in a paper cub.

John Srebalus (J): Did you guys consciously put your look together?
Bobby Hecksher (B): This is how we are. I feel comfortable in dark clothing, blacks and grays. As far as the other guys, they can wear whatever they want. It’s not like there’s a uniform. It goes with the music. We look like Warlocks.

Do you get tired of talking about the Velvets? Being compared to Spacemen 3?
Yeah. Those are my favorite groups: Spacemen 3, Sonic Boom, Spectrum, Spiritualized, The Velvet Underground. We get compared to that a lot and get asked that a lot. We’re in good company, right? It’s a little hard to talk about every time, you know, like ‘what about Nico did you write?’ kinda thing.

At some point will you add more instrumentation à la Spiritualized?
I don’t know about that. I’m pretty content with the way it goes. I like the four guitars, bass, two drummers. Maybe a keyboard player, maybe not. I don’t really want to change it right now.

How was CMJ?
Amazing. I met this really foxy chick. [laughing] That’s what I think of when I think of CMJ. God, she was beautiful. What a model, Jesus! Yikes! It was totally insane. It was packed, and we sounded great. The Mercury sounds great. Little Steven was there, the Creation guy, Alan McGee, was there. I met Dave Kaplan, the White Stripes guy. He was really nice. Little Steven is so cool, dude. I looked at his Web site, and he’s really dialed in. This guy knows every cool band. I was like, wow. I think it’s so badass that someone like that is so into it. You know what I mean? It’s like, ‘dude, lay off the computer, man.’

Coming Soon: MP3’s for The Warlock’s songs “Hurricane Heart Attack” and “Baby Blue.” Watch this space.
