Jan 11, 2013

Pillowfight is the collaborative project of violinist/vocalist Emily Wells and Dan the Automator. Ahead of their self-titled debut (out 1/22), check out this new single “Get Your Shit Together,” which somehow manages to evoke the flow of Biggie and the electro melodrama of Gorillaz.

Jan 10, 2013

Shout Out Louds

“Walking In Your Footsteps” MP3 Stream

Jan 10, 2013

On February 26, Shout Out Louds will release their fourth studio album OPTICA. Check out this springy cut from the project called “Walking in Your Footsteps.” It’s equal parts optimism, heartbreak, and flutes—you know, pretty much everything (and more) that we’ve come to expect from the Stockholm five-piece. Listen to the new song below. You can also check out our in-studio interview with the band here.

Pia Fraus

“Feeling is New” MP3 stream

Jan 10, 2013

Estonian art-rock band Pia Fraus possess a pile of reverb pedals and aren’t afraid to use them. Take a listen to “Feeling is New,” a cut from their forthcoming best-of collection Silmi Island, due out January 22 via Shelflife Records. PSA: Resting somewhere between My Blood Valentine’s all-consuming noise pop, and Sonic Youth’s all-consuming dystopian world-view, it’s probably best to not test the limits of your laptop speakers on this one. They won’t do it justice.

Guards

“Ready to Go” MP3 Stream

Jan 10, 2013

Ahead of Guards’ debut album In Guards We Trust (due out February 5), check out this second taste. “Ready to Go” is a bit janglier than previous single “Silver Lining,” without loosing an ounce of its classic indie rock edge. Wrap your ears around it below.

Poltergeist

“Cathedral” MP3 Stream

Jan 09, 2013

Poltergeist is a new band featuring a few friendly faces: Echo & the Bunnymen’s Will Sergeant and Les Pattinson, plus Nick Kilroe on drums. While the group maintains a sliver of The Bunnymen’s 1980s musicality, this is a completely different beast.

“We create a form of rock music with its toes paddling in the progressive ocean foam of the sixties and seventies and its head in the bone dry air of the present day,” explains Sergeant via Soundcloud. “We want to try and get away from the traditional band format of the line across the stage. There are 12 notes in a scale and we intend to use most of them.”

Tour Dates:

13th Glasgow – Oran Mor

14th London – Hoxton Bar & Grill

16th Liverpool – The Kazimier

22nd Manchester – Sound Control

23rd York - Fibbers

Bird Call

Premiere: “Phantom Limbs” MP3

Jan 09, 2013

Bird Call is the nom de plume (pun slightly intended) of Brooklyn-based electro musician Chiara Angelicola. “Phantom Limbs” has a dangerous, romantic quality to it, Angelicola emoting over a bed of cinema-worthy synths like Grimes on downers. Check out our premiere of the track above. Will We Get to Mars is due out later this year.
