Bright Eyes

Neva Dinova

“Happy Accident” (ft. Neva Dinova) MP3

Mar 12, 2010

In 2004, Bright Eyes and Neva Dinova released a collaborative EP, entitled One Jug of Wine, Two Vessels. Saddle Creek will reissue the six-track EP on March 23rd with four new cuts recently recorded by members of the two Omaha bands. The tinkling folk-rocker, “Happy Accident,” (above) is one of the two tunes sung by Conor Oberst.

Also, check out the official video for the ND-led tune, “Poison,” which was on the original EP. You can also pre-order at Saddle Creek’s online store.

“Terrible Love” (Live on Jimmy Fallon) Video

The National played a brand-new song on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night. The excellent tune is the opening cut from the Brooklyn band’s upcoming LP, High Violet, due May 11th on 4AD. “Terrible Love” has all the elements of a grand National song: a big, cresting melody, horn fanfare, and stadium-filling guitars. Listen/view to it to the left. The band’s website also posted some lo-fi studio clips of the recording process. Oh, and that’s the album artwork below.

Woods

“I Was Gone” MP3

Mar 11, 2010

Brooklyn lo-fi folk-rockers Woods released Songs of Shame last year, and its unfurling pop eventually worked its way into many listeners’ ears. They already have its follow-up ready for release on May 11th (Quite the busy day for indie releases!). Woods’ fifth LP is called At Echo Late and will be issued via frontman Jeremy Earl’s Woodsist imprint. (Formats: CD, vinyl, digital, cassette.)

The group is touring until the end of March with surburban rock foursome Real Estate and on May 13th they’ll appear at New York’s Joshua Light Festival. Be sure to listen to the album’s jangly, Love-esque debut single, “I Was Gone.” Enjoy your falsettoed psych jam!

Dr. Dog

“Stranger” MP3

Mar 11, 2010

Here’s the debut single from Dr. Dog‘s sixth LP, Shame, Shame, out April 6th on Anti-. The track is full of their warm, psych-pop melodies and Beatles-esque harmonies. Also, check out our recent interview with singer-guitarist Scott McMicken while you listen. The Philly quintet has a lot of tour dates coming up and will appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on April 6th.

Here We Go Magic

“Collector” MP3

Mar 10, 2010

The promising psych-folk fivesome Here We Go Magic will issue their sophomore album, Pigeons, on June 8th through Secretly Canadian. Where 2009’s self-titled and home-recorded debut only featured frontman Luke Temple, Pigeons enlists the touring unit of Kristina Lieberson, Michael Bloch, Jennifer Turner, and Peter Hale.

You can download or stream Pigeons’ robust first track, titled “Collector,” over at Secretly Canadian. It’s a propulsive rock tune with some colorful accents during the outro. This young band has made quite the leap from their four-track beginnings to this mature sound.

Neon Indian

“Sleep Paralysist” MP3

Mar 10, 2010

Chillwave maestro Neon Indian released a new single entitled “Sleep Paralysist” today, via Mountain Dew‘s Green Label Sound label. The Alan Palomo track was produced by Grizzly Bear‘s almost-omnipresent Chris Taylor at his Terrible Studios, so that adds a little polish to the mix. Despite this, the dreamy cut still sounds like a great bit of 8-bit nostalgia. Psychic Chasms is out via Lefse.

Suckers

“Boys Who Rape (Should All Be Destroyed)” [The Raveonettes cover] MP3

Mar 10, 2010

Brooklyn quartet Suckers will be releasing their debut album, Wild Smile, on June 8th via NYC imprint Frenchkiss. The LP was recorded, produced, and mixed in New York by Chris Zane (Passion Pit, The Walkmen), save for the 2009 single “It Gets Your Body Movin’” (Chris Moore, Yeasayer’s Anand Wilder) and “Save Your Love For Me” (Moore).

In May, Suckers will be supporting labelmates Local Natives for a U.S. tour. Go here for tour dates. The first single off the full-length hits our ears in April, but while you wait, check out the Suckers’ doo-wop cover of The Raveonettes“Boys Who Rape (Should All Be Destroyed),” from their 2009 LP, In and Out of Control (out now on Vice). Suckers took a cleaner approach to the cut, as opposed to the Danish duo’s “fuzzy” original.

Suckers mysterious multi-instrumentalist Pan, explains the decision further in a press release: “The original version is super fuzzy, so our first instinct was NO FUZZ. We wanted to keep the poppy aspects of the original, but make as much of our own as we could… after messing around with it for a while, it turned into this weird 50’s, kinda dark Doo-Wop thing that reminds me of Twin Peaks for some reason (which actually ended up working well with the subject matter on a completely different level).”
