Los Angeles-songstress Pam Shaffer deals in fractured fairytales—her music falling somewhere between the eerily sweetness of Joanna Newsom and punk cabaret of Amanda Palmer. Today, we’re pleased to premiere a track from Shaffer’s forthcoming album It is Happening Again. Take a listen to carpe diem-themed track “Heliotrope” above.
Earlier this month, genre-bending hip-hop/ambient/pop violinist Emily Wells released her third album, Mama. Los Angeles-based producer Baths got his hands on lead single “Piece of It.” The result was a bubbly rerub. Check it out above.
On Friday night, Thom York and Nigel Godrich performed a DJ set at MOCA in Los Angeles. The pair—who was working under the name Atoms For Peace—aired what sounded suspiciously like new material from the all-star band, which also includes Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers. While they are definitely wasting little time between releasing their first U.S. EP, Pop Meat/Your Corruptor, on April 24, and their full-length debut We'll Be the Moon on May 14 in their native UK, pop quintet Fixers are clearly aiming to get as many of their anthem-raising melodies and Beach Boys-infused harmonies in as many listeners' hands as possible. Helping the cause is the downloadable cut "Crystals" from the EP. Fixers are currently in the midst of a three-day stint of shows in New York City, the last two of which are taking place at Pianos on 4/19 and Mercury Lounge 4/20.
