How to Dress Well

“Ecstasy With Jojo” MP3

Aug 11, 2010

Last week, we gave you a free download of How to Dress Well‘s Love Remains album cut, “You Don’t Need Me Where I’m Goin’.” Yesterday, Transparent Blog shared Tom Krell’s dubbed-out brood-fest, entitled “Take It On.” That late-night jam will be on the limited double A-side 7-inch, “Ecstasy With Jojo” / “Take It On.” It’s streeting August 30 on Transparent. Pre-orders are going down here. Only 300 copies, folks!

Now, bask in the warped brilliance of the other A-side: “Ecstasy With Jojo.” Krell samples Michael Jackson‘s “Baby Be Mine” over his disco-in-a-haunted-house thump (via P4k/Transparent.) Love Remains drops September 21 through Lefse. All cover artwork was done by Edward Quarmby.

No Age

“Glitter” / “Inflorescence” MP3

Aug 10, 2010

No Age‘s second proper LP, Everything in Between, streets September 28 through Sub Pop. On August 24, the noise-punk kings will release the “Glitter” single in two formats. Both the 12-inch and the 7-inch feature the album track “Glitter,” but each one has different, non-album B-sides. (The 7-inch contains “Inflorescence,” and the 12-inch has “In Rebound” and “Vision II.”)

“Glitter” is a mid-tempo noise track with an instantly catchy melody, whereas “Inflorescence” piles on the distorted effects and hammer-ons. Download “Glitter” above, and stream “Inflorescence” below. Check the L.A. duo’s tour dates at their MySpace. (via P4k)

Broken Social Scene

“All to All” Video

Aug 10, 2010

Watch on YouTube

Broken Social Scene‘s slow-motion video for “All to All” lines up a bunch of violent slaps, but there’s some forgiveness in the end. Get it? Forgiveness Rock Record!? Anyway, the clip was lensed by San Francisco’s Strike Anywhere Films as a lark three months ago, but now the Canadian supergroup’s putting their stamp of approval on it by posting the A.V. treat on Arts & Craft‘s YouTube channel. Check out the remixes of “All to All” here. Watch it above (via Prefix).

Menomena: “Killemall” (Live on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon) Video

Portland experimental-pop trio Menomena made their national television debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night. They performed a rousing rendition of Mines’ “Killemall.” Try doing the “Jimmy Fallon Dip” to this one. Apparently, ?uestlove took to Twitter yesterday, to anounce to the world that he really digs Menomena’s pseudonym. Yeah, it’s a pretty kick-ass band name.

Check out the vid below (via The Portland Mercury). (Note: Fastforward to the 36:55 mark.) Since you’re in the mood, peep the clip for the short Mines tune, “Dirty Cartoons.” You’ll witness a killer air-drum sesh from a grizzled homeless dude on a subway platform. Watch that one over at Pitchfork.tv. See North American tour dates here.

Animal Collective: “Screens” / “Mr. Fingers” (ODDSAC soundtrack) MP3 Streams

Animal Collective‘s eye-opening film, ODDSAC comes out tomorrow on DVD through Plexifilm. The DVD version will include director Danny Perez‘s 53-minute film and a 40-page hardcover art book in a slipcover case. Below, you can stream two tunes that are featured in the movie. (via Some Kind of Awesome.)

“Screens” is a haunting acoustic cut with overlapping melodies and warm vocalizations. “Mr. Fingers on the other hand, is not as immediately engaging. The seven-minute psych-out is wall-to-wall with watery effects. Basically, it’s an AnCo track.

Perfume Genius

“Your Drum” Video

Watch on YouTube

Devastatingly minimal folk singer/songwriter Perfume Genius (aka Mike Hadreas) issued his debut LP, Learning, in late-June through Matador. Today, we get a surprise in the form of a YouTube clip. A post on Matador Press’ Twitter linked to the new tune, “Your Drum,” which Hadreas uploaded. The piano-led piece is just shy of two minutes and is visually paired with some heavenly animation. Watch it above. Tour dates will be announced here. (via P4k.)

Eternal Summers

“Pogo” MP3

Aug 09, 2010

The indie-pop punks of Eternal Summers (vocalist/guitarist Nicole Yun and drummer Daniel Cundiff) hail from Roanoke, VA. They will be release, Silver, their debut LP, September 28 via Kanine. About one month earlier, on August 31, the duo drop this sunny single, called “Pogo.” It’s a slice of ‘60s-like reverb you can take with you into the colder months. Stream more tracks and look up upcoming gigs on the band’s MySpace or blog. (Via P4k.)

Grinderman: “Heathen Child” (NSFW) Video

What a strange, weird, and awesome video. Nick Cave‘s bluesy rock blasters Grinderman, have a new A.V. treat to sink your teeth into this Monday afternoon. It’s for single, “Heathen Child,” and it’s definitely NSFW. There are lycanthropes, Hindu deities, the dudes of Grinderman barely clothed, lasers, odd movie clips, and general chaos packed into every second. The red-haired girl on the cover of the “Heathen Child” single also shows up. Verdict: This must be what they show you during interrogations.

Watch below. It was directed by John Hillcoat, who lensed last year’s apocalyptic thriller The Road. Grinderman 2 drops September 14 via ANTI-. Catch the Grindermen on tour this fall and our feature with Mr. Cave in the Fall Issue in October. (via P4k.)
