Here’s the new music video for Rose Elinor Dougall‘s single, “Find Me Out.” In the clip, the former Pipettes member sings and looks sad while scenes of a haunting city are projected behind her. It’s a simple, yet effective set of visuals.

Dougall’s debut solo LP, Without Why, will street through Scarlett Music in the U.K. on August 30 (U.S. plans are still to be announced). See upcoming tour dates at the moody dream-popper’s MySpace. Also, check out our recent in the studio interview with the singer/songwriter.

Kenseth Thibideau

Premiere: “Black Hole” MP3

May 18, 2010

San Diegan Kenseth Thibideau has bounced in between several indie-rock projects in the last several years. If you’re not familiar with his unorthodox stage name, Thibideau was a founding member of instrumental post-rock units Tarentel, Howard Hello, and Rumah Sakit. He’s als spent time as a hired gun for Pinback and Three Mile Pilot. While on tour, Thibideau is helped out by the likes of Chris Fulford Brown, Ali Ozkan, Brent Asbury, and John Baez.

His forthcoming debut LP is called Repetition, and it drops July 20, via Temporary Residence Limited. Here’s an exclusive auditory sneak peak: “Black Hole.” It’s an excellent track pays homage to ‘70s Krautrock and ambient artists such as Brian Eno, Cluster, Harmonia, and Hans-Joachim Roedelius through its spacey, yet melodic groove. Naturally, those seminal artists are Thibideau’s “top friends” on MySpace. Hope you enjoy.

Versus

“Invincible Hero” MP3

May 18, 2010

Having released a trio of great records throughout the ‘90s (The Stars Are Insane, Secret Swingers, Two Cents Plus Tax), and an excellent thought then to be swansong LP in 2000 (Hurrah), Versus spent the ‘00s largely dormant, occasionally getting back together to open for Mission of Burma or play a Teenbeat or Merge anniversary gig.

But in 2008 they began writing new material in their mid-‘90s trio incarnation of Richard Baluyut, Fontaine Toups, and Ed Baluyut, eventually reuniting with producer Nicholas Vernhes (Animal Collective, Deerhunter, Dirty Projectors), who they previously worked with on Secret Swingers, at his Rare Book Room Brooklyn studio. The result of these sessions is the LP On the Ones and Threes, due to be released on Merge August 3rd on both CD and double vinyl, the latter featuring both an alternate tracklisting and bonus tracks.

Merge have released the first MP3, “Invincible Hero,” and it has all the signature Versus moves that their fans know and love—resplendent harmonies courtesy of Baluyut and Toups, jangly guitars that abruptly veer into an anthemic visceral chug, and a brand new accoutrement of violin courtesy of Margaret White (Sparklehorse, The Comas) that fits this superb track like a glove.

On the Ones and Threes Tracklist:

01 “Invincible Hero”
02 “Nu Skin”
03 “Into Blue”
04 “Gone To Earth”
05 “Cicada”
06 “Erstwhile”
07 “Pink Valhalla”
08 “Saturday Saints”
09 “Scientists”
10 “The Ones and Threes”

Drive-By Truckers

“Working This Job” Video

The music video for the Drive-By Truckers“Working This Job” (aka “This Fucking Job”) was unveiled this weekend on VEVO. It’s the best and most professional clip we’ve seen from the group thus far.

Directors Scott Teems and Ray McKinnon lensed it and McKinnon (Deadwood, The Blind Side) stars as the down-on-his-luck protagonist. There are two versions of the burger joint short story. Check out the “explicit” cut above and the “clean” version here. Difference? More burgers and less bullets.

Also, the band’s running a video contest: www.workingthisjob.com. The Big-To is out now via ATO.

Free Energy: “Bang Pop” Video

“Bang Pop” is the great power-pop anthem from Free Energy‘s delirously fun album of earworms, Stuck on Nothing. MySpace debuted its great music video today. The nostalgic clip was lensed by Josh Nussbaum, and sees the throwback foursome acting like rebellious teenagers. The video perfectly resembles one of those super-cool teen movies from the late 70s and early 80s. Check off the visual references: a grumpy principal, one sexy teacher, papers flying around the halls, hotboxing in the bathroom, and a girls locker room scene with blurred-out nudity. Sounds like a great start to the workweek. Watch it above.

A-Trak: Dirty South Dance 2 (Full Album) MP3

The sequel to mashup DJ A-Trak‘s 2007 mixtape Dirty South Dance is naturally titled Dirty South Dance 2 and you can download it all at A-Trak’s website. Also, click the ‘Share’ link on the widget above to download. Best part: Except for an e-mail, it’s free!

This time the dance/hip-hop remixes include Lil Wayne and Gucci Mane’s “We Be Steady Mobbin’,” Ludacris’ “How Low,” and Yung L.A.‘s “Ain’t I,” which is infamously synced up with Joker’s dubstep tune, “Tron.” The artwork was made by Shepard Fairey (Obey).

A deluxe edition of the mix will be issued soon. That boasts a CD, poster, and T-shirt.

Elaine Lachica

Premiere: “Never Fade” Video

Elaine Lachica‘s third LP, I Think I Can See the Ocean, received plenty of praise from this section of the site, when we premiered the singer-songwriter’s fantastic track, “Bewilder.” That fragile, yet stentorian performance is echoed in Ocean‘s deeper cut, “Never Fade.” This time out we’re debuting the partially animated music video for the piano-and-strings waltz. In the Monica Kelly-helmed clip, a balletic woman encounters fairy tale characters and historical figures through a series of dreamy vignettes.

I Think I Can See the Ocean is out now via Stunning Models on Display. See the classically trained soprano’s upcoming tour dates at her MySpace or official site. You owe it to yourself to see the New York dream-popper play live. Note: She’s also performing at the Montreal Baroque Festival on June 27. More gigs will be announced very soon.

“Pulling ourselves in/ To the space where I begin/ How does it stop/ And never fade away.”
