Premiere: Lauren Bathrop “Maple Tree”

Aug 13, 2018

Nashville singer-guitarist Lauren Balthrop is ready for her introduction. Her debut album, This Time Around, will release Sept 21st on Tone Tree and Under the Radar has the premiere of the minimal folk country gem “Maple Tree”.

There’s a poignant story behind the song. “I wrote Maple Tree shortly after the 100 year old maple in my Brooklyn front yard was cut down,” Bathrop recalls, “It had caught the same disease the other maples on the block succumbed to. When the tree was gone, we were left with an enormous stump that is now overgrown with wildflowers. My house just didn’t feel the same. I had looked out of my window onto that tree for over a decade. It was like I lost a friend and protector from the street below. And who knows, it might have been a trigger for my eventual move from Brooklyn to Nashville one year later!”

The song features Josh Kaufman (Bob Weir, The National, Hiss Golden Messenger) on electric bass, Peter Lalish (Lucius, Uni Ika Ai) on electric guitar and acoustic Wurlitzer keyboard, Jason Bemis Lawrence on drums, Maia Friedman (The Dirty Projectors, Uni Ika Ai) on backing vocals and Bathrop on nylon string guitar and vocals.
