Patrick The Pan

Premiere: Patrick the Pan Mixtape (Open’er Festival Edition)

Jun 30, 2015

Only a few short days until Open’er Festival kicks off in Gdynia, Poland. The four day event includes sets from Under the Radar favorites St. Vincent, alt-j, and Father John Misty. But we’re using our mixtape series to introduce you to a few of the Polish artists playing that you might not already be familiar with.

The next mix comes from Patrick the Pan, who included cuts from the likes of Lana Del Rey, My Brightest Diamond, and Everything Everything. Listen to the tape below. If you’re joining us in Poland, head over to Open’er’s official website for the full lowdown on lineup and tickets. You can also revisit the previous tape in our series from Oxford Drama.

Tracklist:

1. Chet Baker: You’re Mine, You - Muddy jazz guitars has always been my my little fetish. I also love this old school mix style, with vocal on left side and guitar on right side. Oh, Chet… You’re Mine, You (genius).

2. Kamasi Washington: Miss Understanding - Speaking of jazz. On latest Kendrick Lamar album “For Free – Interlude” was one of my favorite songs due to the excellent jazz in the back. This guy took a serious part in those recordings, so when he released a debut album it quickly became my looped everyday music. I also love how Kamasi doesn’t give a f**k about the fact that EPs and singles seems to dethrone long albums, and he released an almost 3 hours long album, which simply couldn’t have a better title: The Epic.

3. Lana Del Ray: West Coast - This is pure sex and heat and I love it.

4. Lower Dens: I Get Nervous - This song is my little reminder, that sometimes easy moves are the best moves…

5. Sufjan Stevens: You Are the Blood - ...while this one is my little reminder that sometimes You need to think a bit harder in music…

6. Hiatus Kayote: Shaolin Monk Motherfunk - ...like Hiatus Kayote, who do so a lot a still I don’t have a feeling it’s overcomplicated.

7. Coldplay: Careful Where You Stand - And this one is my little reminder to always remember where did I come from.

8. Everything Everything: Two For Nero - I always put harpsichord in one row with bagpipe, children choirs and other banjos as sounds that just can’t make a good music. This piece showed that I was right…on the beginning. But later, on 2:10, when the bass and drums show up, I start to drift and melt, completely forgetting how hypocrite I’m becoming in this moment.

9. My Brightest Diamond: To Pluto’s Moon - Sarah Worden a.k.a. My Brightest Diamond is one of my TOP 5 most important artists EVER. Her first two albums had an enormous influence on me and on my way of thinking in music. If there is a playlist to be made My Brightest Diamond has to be mentioned there.

10. Patrick the Pan: The Ballad of an Elephant (Sambor Remix) - And here’s a little surprise. This is one of my songs remixed by a very creative polish artist - Sambor. This is the first time ever someone remixed me and this whole playlist is a first time ever this song is showed to the world, so… enjoy it!
