Following up his acutely and appropriately morbid score for the horror sensation Hereditary, multireedist and composer Colin Stetson has crafted a gorgeous soundtrack for the new Hulu original series The First starring Sean Penn. The music is once again dark, but more weightless and beautiful than Hereditary, to follow the story of the first manned mission to Mars. Stetson seems to be devoting more to film and television music recently, having been a saxophone player for acts Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Bell Orchestre, and Ex Eye. So far so good.
