Mercury Rev
What was the best album released
in 2006 that few people heard?
Mercury Rev’s Hello Blackbird.
What album or song do you feel
best defines this generation?
The Harmony Rockets’ Paralyzed
Mind of the Archangel Void.
What’s the biggest goal
for your life that you have yet
to achieve?
The biggest goal in life is to eventually
put out the fire, but we’re far, far away from that.
With the rise of MySpace and the
ever-increasing presence of bloggers, what is your feeling about using
the Internet as a promotional tool? Will MySpace last and are you actively
involved in your band’s MySpace page? With the music blogs seen
as an increasingly influential source for breaking new artists, do you
read them and are they a positive influence that bypasses the industry
machinery or just empty hype?
The Internet is a great promotional tool,
no doubt about that. MySpace can be whatever you want it to be (and you
can be as involved with it as deeply as you want to be involved). In a
way, it is very punk rock-DIY. We do get involved with our MySpace page
as far as the design and info, etc., but we don’t go over there
every single day. Haven’t really gotten into the blogging yet, but
that’s probably next.
If you could have any superpower,
what power would you want to have and why?
Invisibility would be a great power to
have for the obvious reason: No one could see you! You could get a lot
done in a clandestine manner. In other words, you could be pretty sneaky.
In 2006, what was the best movie
you saw, book you read, and/or TV show you watched?
The best book we read was The Tender
Bar: A Memoir by J.R. Moehringer.
