77:78 is the new project of Aaron Fletcher and Tim Parkin, who were both formerly in The Bees (or A Band of Bees, as they were alas legally forced to be renamed in America). Fletcher was a founding member of that British psych-rock band, which released four albums, most memorably 2002’s Mercury Prize-nominated debut album Sunshine Hit Me and 2004’s sophomore album Free the Bees. The Bees haven’t released an album since 2010’s Every Step’s a Yes and are either on extended hiatus or broken up. Hence we now have 77:78 and their debut album, Jellies, which is due out July 6 via Heavenly. The band have shared a video for the album’s first single, “Love Said (Let’s Go).” Listen to it below, followed by the album’s tracklist and cover art.
Musically, “Love Said (Let’s Go)” isn’t a million miles away from The Bees’ relaxed psych-rock vibes. Sam Wisternoff directed the accompanying animated video for the song.
Fletcher had this to say about the song and video in a press release: “Ever since we first saw John Slade’s designs for parties at The Social we wanted him to be involved with 77:78. His artwork makes you think ‘why’ and wtf!? It’s hugely vibrant and it hits a certain silly nail on the head every time. He got what we were after with the band and he didn’t fail once to deliver the goods. Originally at the beginning of the brief we gave him, he made a handful of magical giffs that had us all mesmerized. We were then lucky (again) to stumble over Sam Wisternoff who grabbed all the elements and designs John had created and brushed us a solid graphical vid together for ‘Love Said (Let’s Go)!’ There’s teasers to the main artwork included, peace love be silly get the jellies in.”
Fletcher also had this to say about the album: “There’s an absolute joy to this and we really want to capitalize on that. We’re more happy than we’ve have ever been and we want people to see that there’s a lot of fun here. 77:78 is a beautiful vehicle and me and Tim want to give it a roll and see what happens.”

Announced their debut album. It’s called Need to Feel Your Love! ACTUALLY being infatuated, which is something we don’t frequently expound on without being pessimistic somehow. Being far from the one you cherish is hard. This melody talks as though that inclination for that individual is something as common and effective as a gravitational draw.
