Beck Joins Forces With Devendra Banhart, MGMT, Jamie Lidell and Nigel Godrich for “Record Club”
The Velvet Underground & Nico to be Covered in a One Day Session
Musical chameleon Beck has a new project, which, quite possibly, could raise the bar for cool collaborations.
Coinciding with a massive overhaul of his website, set to happen next month, Beck will be hosting a “Record Club”—a regular meeting where musicians will come together to record a single album in an entire day without rehearsal, arrangement, or second-guesses. Some of the artists to initially be involved include Devendra Banhart, MGMT, Jamie Lidell, and Nigel Godrich
To give the proceedings some structure (and, one assumes, to prevent outright musical chaos, no matter how creative it might be) a preexisting album will be chosen to be covered. The first album to receive said honor will be The Velvet Underground & Nico.
Fans will be able to follow the Record Club’s week-by-week process via participating artists’ websites and beck.com, where an MP3 will be uploaded once a week.
