Thirty-something women (and men) across America might be shedding a tear or sighing in sadness today with the news that beloved '80s teen film writer and director John Hughes has passed away. Variety, the Associated Press, and others are reporting that the 59-year-old died of a heart attack today in Manhattan. He was visiting family there and taking a morning walk when he passed. Hughes was behind such classics as Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Pretty in Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful, Uncle Buck, and Planes, Trains & Automobiles. Today Radiohead have made available on their website a brand new song entitled "Harry Patch (In Memory Of)," which was inspired a World War I veteran. Harry Patch passed away on July 25th at the ripe old age of 111 (and 38 days). At the time of his death, Patch was the oldest man in Europe, the last British male to be born in the 1890s, the third oldest man in the world, the last World War I veteran living in Europe, and the last trench veteran of World War I.
