Brooklyn noise rockers A Place to Bury Strangers are releasing a new album, Pinned, on April 13 via Dead Oceans. Previously they shared a black & white horror movie-esque video for its first single and opening track, “Never Coming Back.” Now they have shared a video for another new song from the album, the unrelenting “There’s Only One of Us Left.” Elizabeth Skadden directed the video, which finds the band performing the song in a dark space and building a totem out of their instruments. Check it out below followed by the band’s tour dates, including a crazy SXSW schedule that includes 13 shows in four days (one day they are playing five shows, it’s exhausting just thinking about it).

Skadden had this to say in a press release about the “There’s Only One of Us Left” video: “The inspiration comes from the foghorn bass line, military drum beat, and kamikaze guitars that intimate a war taking place. Talking to the band, I learned the ‘war’ was people under the siege of making a creative project. The work the band does to create the song is expressed in the ‘totem’ built over the course of the music video. Visually, I broke the song into its sonic elements and assigned each its own visual, such as the shifting red and blue lights. The lighting setups were inspired by a Fad Gadget performance from the 1980s, and films by Pedro Almodovar and Kathryn Bigelow.”

Pinned is the band’s fifth album. A press release points out that it’s also the band’s first since both the 2016 U.S. election and the 2014 closing of the band’s Brooklyn DIY space Death By Audio, where founding guitarist/singer Oliver Ackerman also lived. This is also the first album to feature new drummer Lia Simone Braswell (the band also features bassist Dion Lunadon).

Ackerman had this to say about the album and the band changes in a previous press release: “As things go on, you don’t want them to be stagnant. Being a band for 10 years, it’s hard to keep things moving forward. I see so many bands that have been around and they’re a weaker version of what they used to be. This band is anti-that. We try to push ourselves constantly, with the live shows and the recordings. We always want to get better. You’ve got to dig deep and take chances, and sometimes, I questioned that. It took really breaking through to make it work. I think we did that.”
