First French duo Air collaborated on a short film and soundtrack for Cartier, and now its been announced that the band will release an original soundtrack for the vintage black and white French silent film, Le Voyage Dans La Lune.

La Voyage Dans La Lune (A Trip to the Moon) is a 14-minute long silent film that was released in 1902 and directed by George Méliès. Considered the first sci-fi film, it is based loosely on the novels From the Earth to the Moon by Jules Vernes and The First Men In The Moon by H.G. Wells.

A hand colored print of the film was discovered in 1993 in poor condition by company Filmoteca de Catalunya and has been in the restoration process until recently.

The producers of the revamped film asked Air to compose a soundtrack for the film and then duo were inspired to grow that into a full album, one with guest vocals featuring Au Revoir Simone and Victoria Legrand (Beach House).

A limited version of the album will come with a bonus DVD or digital download of the film.

Ah, this Georges Méliès’ film was also the inspiration for one of my favorite music videos.
