Animal Collective have announced a new audiovisual album, Tangerine Reef, and shared its first song, "Hair Cutter." Tangerine Reef is due out August 17 via Domino. Check out "Hair Cutter" below, followed by a trailer for the album and the album's tracklist. Above is the cover art. There's also a video for "Hair Cutter," but it's an Apple Music exclusive and needs to be watched over there.

In February 2017 three-fourths of Animal Collective (Avey Tare, Deakin and Geologist) performed an hour long set inspired by coral reefs. It was titled "Coral Orgy" and featured visuals from Coral Morphologic, which a press release describes as "an art-science duo formed by marine biologist Colin Foord and musician J.D. McKay in 2007 in Miami." Now it's all been turned into an album, with a film made with Coral Morphologic. The whole thing is timed to the third International Year of the Reef, which is this year. The film will be released on the band's website the same day the album is released.

The band's last album was 2016's Painting With.

A press release describes the project as such: "Tangerine Reef is a visual tone poem consisting of time-lapse and slow pans across surreal aquascapes of naturally fluorescent coral and cameos by alien-like reef creatures (note: no CGI or artificial enhancement was used in this film). Tangerine Reef is the sight and sound of a literal underwater collective of animals."
