Animal Collective Set to Reissue Campfire Songs
2003 Third LP Comes Out January 26th
Oct 07, 2009 Animal Collective
Animal Collective dwell in a very different sonic landscape than the one they occupied in 2003. It’s crazy to think these guys were once tagged as “freak folk.” That year they were following up their promising 2000 debut, Spirit They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished and 2001’s dance/electronica sophomore release, Danse Manatee with the five-track suite, Campfire Songs.
The home-recorded release was for the little label Catsup Plate and it’s now out of print. The band has plans to reissue it early next year on their own Paw Tracks imprint. Sidenote: this is the only LP to feature Avey Tare (David Portner), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox) and original member Deakin (Josh Dibb). The trio recorded it on portable MiniDisc players on a screened-in porch in Maryland. Although Geologist (Brian Weitz) does not perform on it, he was present for the recording to operate the MiniDiscs.
The re-release is slated for a January 26th release and has no bonus tracks. The full tracklist is below.
Campfire Songs:
01 Queen in My Pictures
02 Doggy
03 Two Corvettes
04 Moo Rah Rah Rain
05 De Soto de Son
