Arcade Fire Wins Polaris Music Prize
Named the Best in the Great White North
Arcade Fire took home the 2011 Polaris Music Prize last night for their third album, The Suburbs. Honoring the best Canadian album of the year, the $30,000 prize is judged by a jury of journalists and broadcasters from across Canada and is equivalent to the Mercury Music Prize in the United Kingdom. The other nominees this year included Destroyer, Ron Sexsmith, Austra, Braids, and The Weeknd. The Suburbs has already been named Album of the Year by both the Grammy Awards and the Juno Awards, and won Best International Album at the BRIT Awards.
