Beach House, Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear, Walkmen Members to Perform Gene Clark’s “No Other” on Tour
Celebrating the Album on the Road
Dec 03, 2013 Beach House
Back in 1974 Gene Clark, found member of The Byrds, released No Other. Developing into a cult favorite among musicians years after being deemed a critical and commmercial failure at the time of its release, the album will be given a bit of new life when it will be played in its entirety on the road by a gathering of some of indie rock’s most notable artists, including Beach House, as well as members of Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear, and The Walkmen.
The touring supergroup will feature Beach House’s Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally, with lead vocals being handled by Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold, Grizzly Bear’s Daniel Rossen, the Walkmen’s Hamilton Leithauser, Iain Matthews of Plainsong/Fairport Convention, and Legrand. The rest of the band will feature Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner, as well as members of Lower Dens, Cass McCombs’ touring band, Celebration, and Mt. Royal.
On their website Beach House wrote: “Though we generally love all of his music, we are most infatuated with his 1974 record, No Other. It feels like a special moment in Gene Clark’s songwriting. At first, the overdone, studio nature of the album feels overbearing: the electric violin, the female chorus, the bass riffs, the layered guitar sequences. However, with more listens, Gene Clark’s very unique lyrics, voice and spirit become the central focus. It’s one of those records where each time you listen, you love a different song the most. Every song is nuanced and amazing in its own way.”
Before each performances, an edit of a new documentary on Clark and No Other called The Byrd Who Flew Alone will be screened. Scroll down below to view the list of performances as well as trailer for the documentary.
