After four years of waiting and nine months of planning, Kevin Drew of Broken Social Scene recently blogged to announce that the band is finally back in studio, recording with John McEntire. The band is currently in Soma Studio in Chicago.
Drew writes, “We spent the last couple of weeks at Chuck Spearin’s house/rehearsal space/backyard writing tunes, drinking coffees, hanging with the family…and now its time for the record button.”
There are no hard feelings between the band and producer David Newfield—who worked with them on their previous two albums—but right now, the band is happy with the working relationship they’v e found with McEntire.
Newfield’s response to Drew on the recording of the new record reads as follows:
“You don’t need my blessing, I’m not a religious guy, I don’t believe in Mary, Mohammed, Hindi God 3b, Buddha 1xp2, Pharaoh 4,Darth Vader, Zeppelin 3, Lucifer or Jesus, so I’m not qualified to bestow blessings, but if you want me to wish you the best in your recording, then I wish you the best!”
No word on a release date or really anything else, but the band is certainly headed to that end.
