Current indie rocker Car Seat Headrest (aka Will Toledo and band) and 1990s rock band Smash Mouth have covered each other. Over a year ago a Twitter user named alligator grappler suggested that the two cover each other and surprisingly both artists positively responded. The two covers debuted today on Jenny Eliscu’s SiriusXMU show, with Smash Mouth covering Car Seat Headrest’s “Something Soon” (from 2015’s Teens of Style) and Car Seat Headrest doing “Fallen Horses” (from 1999’s Astro Lounge). Smash Mouth’s cover of “Something Soon” is now online. Listen below, via Stereogum. Car Seat Headrest’s “Fallen Horses” cover has yet to surface.

Car Seat Headrest are releasing a new album of sorts, Twin Fantasy, tomorrow (February 16) via Matador. It’s a re-imagined version of an album also titled Twin Fantasy that Toledo self-released to Bandcamp in 2011. Car Seat Headrest previously shared a 13-minute new version of “Beach Life-In-Death,” a self-directed video for the 2018 version of “Nervous Young Inhumans,” a new version of “Cute Thing,” and a 2018 version of the album’s opening track, “My Boy (Twin Fantasy).”
