Cat Power (aka Chan Marshall) is releasing a new album, Wanderer, on October 5 via Domino. Now she has shared another new track from the album, “Stay,” which is actually a cover of the Rihanna song from 2012 (originally written by Justin Parker and Mikky Ekko). It was shared via a Greg Hunt-directed video of Marshall performing the song at the Los Angeles studio of Rob Schnapf (who mixed Wanderer). Watch it below, followed by Cat Power’s upcoming tour dates.

Marshall had this to say about the track in a press release: “I love the tradition of covering songs. I think it’s one of the highest compliments you can pay another artist. It’s one of the great traditions in American music and one of the true pleasures of music history.”

Previously she shared a video for the album’s short opening track (and title track), “Wanderer.” Then she shared the album’s first official single, “Woman,” via a video for the song. “Woman” featured Lana Del Rey on backing vocals and was one of our Songs of the Week.

Marshall produced Wanderer herself and the album was written and recorded in Miami and Los Angeles over the course of the last few years. It is Marshall’s first album for Domino after spending most of her career on Matador.

In a previous press release Marshall said the album’s 11 tracks encompass “my journey so far. The course my life has taken in this journey - going from town to town, with my guitar, telling my tale; with reverence to the people who did this generations before me. Folk singers, blues singers, and everything in between. They were all wanderers, and I am lucky to be among them.”
