Chairlift’s Caroline Polachek Surprise-Releases New Instrumental Solo Album as a Free Download
Drawing the Target Around the Arrow Out Now
Chairlift released their third album, Moth, last January via Columbia. Back in December singer Caroline Polachek and multi-instrumentalist/producer Patrick Wimberly announced that it'll be their last; that they are breaking up. Last week the duo announced their final shows, to go down in April. Now Polachek has surprise-released a brand new instrumental solo album. It's entitled Drawing the Target Around the Arrow and is being released simply under her initials, CEP. You can download it for free here.
The Creative Independent premiered the album and have an exclusive interview with Polachek about it. In 2014 Polachek released Arcadia, a very good solo album as Ramona Lisa, but she purposefully chose this to be a different thing, hence releasing it as CEP. In the interview she explains why she decided to release an instrumental album, that she plans to perform these songs live, and that she's also working on another album. "I'm also knee-deep into the next record that I'm working on, which is a vocal record," she says. "In a way, this record feels like an intermission, like a bit of a silence between these two other periods."
Moth made it on Under the Radar's Top 100 Albums of 2016 list. Read our interview with Chairlift on Moth. Also read our 2014 print article on Polachek's Ramona Lisa album as well as our 2014 bonus website interview with her.
