Band Bows Out Due to “Unforeseen Health Issues”

Last night, Coachella released set times for this year’s festival (this weekend, April 16th-18th). While we were busy agonizing over the inevitable conflicts (Charlotte Gainsbourg vs. Jónsi? Local Natives vs. Owen Pallet? Sly and Family Stone vs. Phoenix? C’mon!), one thing quickly became clear—Under the Radar favorites Mew (previously announced to play on Saturday) were no longer on the list. Today the band released a statement via their MySpace, confirming that their absence from the schedule was no mere typo:
“Mew are sorry to announce that as a result of unforeseen health issues in the Mew family, we will need to cancel our scheduled performance at Coachella this year. We are extremely disappointed by this cancellation and look forward to playing again soon before our new and old fans. We are sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused and hope to see you soon. Thanks for all your support and understanding.”

That was a real bummer. I was looking forward to seeing them but you cannot fault anyone for taking care of things at home first. I’m still waiting for an opportunity to go see them and can’t wait.

I finally got to see Mew and it was well worth the wait! They are one of the best bands I’ve ever seen live and they even hung out with a lot of us after the show. Once in a lifetime experience for sure!
