Donald Glover Cast as a Young Lando Calrissian in Han Solo Centered Star Wars Prequel
Currently Untitled Movie Due Out in 2018
Oct 21, 2016 Star Wars
Actor/musician/writer Donald Glover may not have been cast as Spider-Man, a role he lobbied for around the time Andrew Garfield landed the part, but he has just been cast as another iconic character: Lando Calrissian. He will play a younger version of the character in the currently untitled Han Solo centered Star Wars prequel. Billy Dee Williams of course originated the role in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Glover got his start as a writer for 30 Rock and as Troy Barnes in Community. He has also released two albums as Childish Gambino, 2011’s Camp and 2013’s Because the Internet, and created and currently stars in the acclaimed FX TV show Atlanta.
The Han Solo movie is due out sometime in 2018 (the exact release date is TBA). Alden Ehrenreich plays a younger version of Solo (Harrison Ford famously originated that role). Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street) direct. Below is the official Star Wars tweet announcing his casting.
