Danish trio Efterklang are releasing their first new album in seven years, Altid Sammen, on Sept 20 via 4AD. Now they have shared another song from the album, “Uden ansigt,” via a lyric video. Watch it below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.
In a press release lyricist/vocalist Casper Clausen talks about the inspiration behind “Uden ansigt” (which translates to “Without face”): “The lyrics are like pictures to me, based on a moment I once had when biking in Copenhagen. It was raining heavily, everybody packed away under umbrellas, hoodies, hats etc. Faceless, genderless, ageless, colourless. My vision was blurred out and those bodies were moving through the street like faceless ghosts of a Japanese Anime movie, simultaneously haunted, alone and united at the same time.”
Previously Efterklang shared a video for the album’s first single, “Vi er uendelig.” Then they shared another song from the album, “I dine øjne,” via a video for the track. Both videos featured iconic model/photographer Helena Chris and were directed by Andreas Koefoed.
Efterklang consists of Casper Clausen (vocals), Mads Brauer (synths, electronics), and Rasmus Stolberg (bass). Altid Sammen is the band’s fifth album, the follow-up to 2012’s Piramida. The band’s hiatus began in 2014 after they played one final show in their hometown of Sønderborg.
“We needed a break from the album and touring routine, and we needed a break from Efterklang,” said Clausen in a previous press release about the long gap between albums. “After the Sønderborg show, things felt very exciting - and a bit scary too. We could think freely, and move in new directions again, just focusing on the things that excited the three of us.”
Of the new album, Clausen said: “Altid Sammen‘s songs are about belief and togetherness. Not in a religious way - none of us are believers of a defined religion. The words are searching for meaning in intimate relationships, in nature, in death and eternity. The bonds we create; to gather, hold hands, sing or share a moment together. We’re all connected, across nations, age, sex and gender. We come together with all of our backgrounds, and we move apart in all sorts of directions, always together.”
