EL VY Covered David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” on “Colbert” Last Night
Band Also Performed "Return to the Moon"
EL VY (the project of The National's frontman Matt Berninger and former Menomena member Brent Knopf, who also records as Ramona Falls) performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night. They did the title track to their excellent debut album, Return to the Moon (out now via 4AD), but in honor of Sunday's passing of David Bowie the band closed out the show by covering Bowie's "Let's Dance." Colbert's house band Stay Human joined in and their rendition of the 1983 hit featured horns and was fittingly rousing, especially at the end. Black & white images of Bowie appeared behind the band during the performance. Check it out below, along with EL VY's "Return to the Moon" performance. (And don't forget that EL VY are on the cover of our current print issue.)
As we previously reported yesterday, Bowie passed away late Sunday after an 18-month battle with cancer. His death came as something of a shock, as his cancer diagnosis was not made public and on Friday he just released a critically praised brand new album, Blackstar (styled as ★), which was also Bowie's 69th birthday.
