Distance Between Dreams – Original Soundtrack will be released digitally by Lakeshore Records on December 2nd, and on vinyl early next year. The film stars surfer Ian Walsh and captures what’s considered one of the most historic surf seasons on record. The movie releases on December 2nd, as well, and features a score by Tom Holkenborg.
Holkenborg is more famously known as Junkie XL, and his recent work includes many Hollywood blockbusters, from Deadpool to Batman v Superman and UTR-favorite Mad Max: Fury Road. Like many of his scores, Distance Between Dreams was recorded using analog equipment, which he utilized recreate the feeling of the oceanic waves that surfers like Walsh love to ride.
As Holkenborg said of composing the film’s soundtrack: “Trying to tell Ian’s story was a tremendous learning experience for me. Surfing is a dangerous, solitary, and very noble pursuit, and I think the majority of people are unaware of just how athletic guys like Ian are. The work he has to put in and out of the water is tremendous. The ocean is a magical place, but it’s also dangerous. Capturing Ian’s spirit and the dichotomy of his environment is what is at the heart of this score.”
We’re excited to premiere “The Workx,” a piece from the film’s upcoming soundtrack release. Listen below:
