Father John Misty Shares Nightmarish New Lullaby, “Maybe, Sweet One, You Won’t Have Nightmares”

Father John Misty (real name Josh Tillman) has shared a humorous and nightmarish new song “Maybe, Sweet One, You Won’t Have Nightmares.” The song was originally written for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, as Tillman explained when the song was posted to Soundcloud: “I was asked to write a lullaby for Stephen Colbert as part of a skit for the show. Unfortunately the bit was cut for time/content.” The song is pretty much the opposite of a lullaby, with creepy lyrics about detachable penises and piles of dead birds, backed by some scary musical tones. Check it out below.

Father John Misty’s excellent February 2015-released sophomore album, I Love You, Honeybear, was Under the Radar’s #1 album of 2015. Consequently, Father John Misty is on the cover of our Best of 2015 print issue and all the info on that is here. Also read our earlier 2015 print article on Father John Misty and our earlier 2015 bonus Q&A with Tillman (also read our 2012 interview with him).
