Five Not to Be Missed Artists Play Sled Island
Sled Island Runs June 18-22 in Calgary, Canada
Jun 11, 2014
Sled Island Music & Arts Festival 2014
We all know that Under the Radar readers are refined music listeners with exquisite taste. (You also smell fantastic!) So we’re not going to insult you by declaring that you MUST see Sled Island headliners St. Vincent, Spiritualized, or Neko Case. You were already planning on it, right?
But just in case you need a few other suggestions, here is where you’ll find us hanging out. Sled Island kicks off a week from today in Calgary, Canada. Plan your schedule here.
Okay, so maybe Rhye aren’t exactly one of the little guys—band member/producer Robin Hannibal has made plenty of waves with his other project Quadron. But while the duo may have made one of the most sensual albums of 2013, they haven’t exactly been prolific about touring. Be sure to catch the slickest show Sled Island has to offer.
araabmuszik fuses the best of hip-hop and electronic worlds. His music is full of mesmerizing repetition and in-your-face rapped passages. Basically, this is the kind of stuff that’s guaranteed to sound even better live than it does on record.
If araabmuszik is a punch to the face, Jacques Greene is a tall glass of champagne. House music with a splash of R&B. Drink it up.
Mise en Scene is what would happen if Camera Obscura was conceived in the garage. Playful pop with a lo-fi rattle, the band’s tunes will satisfy both your sweet tooth and rock n roll soul.
Sure, you know Dan Deacon. But have you SEEN Dan Deacon? Like a manic Mister Rogers, Deacon wields complete control over his fans who come to see him live. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself running, jumping and singing link a manic toddler to his melted rainbow pop.
