I am confused. I just bought this album from Amazon on Thursday, and I am in the US. It is also available to US customers on iTunes. What is the significance of the October release date if it is already available?

You would have bought an import version off amazon.com or the amazon marketplace. You could order direct from the UK by say amazon.co.uk.Their service from the UK is very fast.I have personally ordered the album via a UK ebay store.I expect it to arrive in a few days.
I do note the Deluxe version(plus a few iTunes extras) for sale on iTunes Canada.
The October release date in the US(and Canada I assume) will be for the physical CD.
Florence did a hub session for BBC 6 Music before her Glastonbury show that was dynamite!
Enjoy the album.
