Fucked Up Release All-Star “Do they Know It’s Christmas?” Cover
Christmas Single Features Kevin Drew, Tegan and Sara, Kyp Malone, Ezra Koenig, Yo La Tengo, and others
Canadian band Fucked Up is leading the Christmas charge. With the help of a few friends (including comedian David Cross, Broken Social Scene's Kevin Drew, Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio, Yo La Tengo, Bob Mould of Husker Du, Tegan & Sara, and Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend) they've released an updated version of 1980s classic "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
Like its predecessor, all the proceeds will go to charity. On the Matador blog, Fucked Up's Damian Abraham discusses using a lighthearted cover to shed light on a very serious matter saying, "It's hard to find a balance between the song being a fun, playful holiday classic and the reason we're putting it out, to benefit organizations dealing with a deadly, serious issue."
That "deadly, serious issue" is highlighted with Abraham's choice of charities, Justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, DTES Power of Women Group and Sisters in Spirit—all who work to shed light on Canada's missing and murdered Aboriginal women.
Want to rock out and support a great cause? "Do The Know It's Christmas" is available exclusively on iTunes.
