Gorillaz Announces New Album Plastic Beach, Out March 9th
Hear First Single "Stylo"
Jan 20, 2010 Gorillaz
Cartoon rockers Gorillaz return March 9th with Plastic Beach, their first album in five years. Always the pranksters, the press release describes the album as such: “The band have taken up residence, recording on a secret floating island deep in the South Pacific, a Plastic Beach HQ, made up of the detritus, debris and washed up remnants of humanity. This Plastic Beach is the furthest point from any landmass on Earth; the most deserted spot on the planet.”
Of course, no man is an island, and no Plastic Island is impervious to outsiders. You too can invade…er…grab a listen to single “Stylo” via Spine Magazine. Twittered band member Murdoc Niccals of the “leak,” “A leak! A leak! Plastic Beach has sprung a leak! One of those Russian pirates has put a bullet hole in my island! My single’s leaked! STYLO!”
Despite (or perhaps in spite of) of what that might mean, we do have a few additional concrete details. The album will feature a series of high profile guests including Little Dragon, Gruff Rhys, Mos Def, Paul Simon, Mos Def, De La Soul, Mark E Smith, Bobby Womack, and Lou Reed. No word yet if they too will show up in cartoon form.
