The 2019 Grammy Awards nominations have been announced. Despite expanding the major categories from five nominees to eight this time, it’s still the usual collection of mainstream pop, R&B, and hip-hop artists, with rock generally shut out of the main categories. The nominations are below (for an even longer list, including classical, jazz, and country artists, visit the Grammys website).

Janelle Monáe is up for Album of the Year, Childish Gambino is nominated for Song of the Year, and Margo Price is probably the lone Best New Artist nominee we can get behind. Arctic Monkeys, Beck, Björk, David Byrne, and St. Vincent compete for Best Alternative Music Album. Weezer is the lone decent nominee for Best Rock Album and St. Vincent the only good nominee for Best Rock Song (for “Masseduction”).

Deeper in the nominees list, Jon Hopkins is up for Best Dance/Electronic Album, Sufjan Stevens’ “Mystery of Love” (from Call Me By Your Name) is nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media, Mitski and St. Vincent will be competing for Best Recording Package, and The Decemberists’ I’ll Be Your Girl is nominated for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package. Crazily, Kamasi Washington’s acclaimed Heaven and Earth did not garner any nominations in the jazz categories.

The 61st Annual Grammy Awards will happen Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Los Angeles’ Staples Center and live on CBS.
