Grizzly Bear released a new album, Painted Ruins, back in August via RCA. It was our Album of the Week and the band was on the cover of our summer print issue. Now the band has done a session for Spotify where they performed “Mourning Sound” and covered Diane Cluck’s 2003 song “Easy to Be Around.” Listen to both below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.

Previously they have shared four tracks from the album, “Three Rings,” “Mourning Sound,” “Four Cypresses,” and “Neighbors” (the latter via a video), as well as a striking music video for “Mourning Sound” and a surreal video for “Losing All Sense” starring actress Busy Philipps (Freaks and Geeks, Cougar Town, Vice Principals)

Grizzly Bear were formerly a New York band, but three members (Chris Bear, Ed Droste, and Chris Taylor) now live in Los Angeles, with Daniel Rossen living in Santa Fe, NM. The band spent two years writing and recording Painted Ruins. Taylor produced the album, which was recorded at Allaire Studios in upstate New York, and at several locations around Los Angeles, including Taylor’s own Terrible Studios. Painted Ruins is the follow-up to 2012’s Shields, and they have long been hinting at a new album, releasing various abstract teaser trailers for it.
