Y Dydd Olaf, the debut solo album from Gwenno Saunders (released simply under her first name), got a proper full-on release last summer via Heavenly Recordings after an initial sold-out very limited release in 2014. Today she has shared a new remix of “Fratolish Hiang Perpeshki” done by Stereolab’s co-founder Tim Gane (who has just released a debut album with his new trio, Cavern of Anti-Matter). Gwenno has also announced some U.S. tour dates. The dates include SXSW (including an appearance at one of Under the Radar‘s events) and the Moogfest. The remix and tour dates are both below.

Saunders was previously best known as a member of the retro-sounding girl group The Pipettes (which also featured Rose Elinor Dougall), but Y Dydd Olaf sounds very little like that fun pop group, as it’s mainly sung in Saunders’ native Welsh language and is inspired by an obscure 1970s Welsh sci-fi novel that shares the album’s title and was written by Owain Owain. And musically there’s a blissed out Krautrock vibe, with reference points that include 1960s electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire (responsible for arranging the Doctor Who theme), Broadcast, and, yes, Stereolab.
