British political punks IDLES released a new album, Joy as an Act of Resistance, last year via Partisan. Now they have shared a new song, “Mercedes Marxist,” which was recorded at the same time as the last album. They have also announced some new fall North American tour dates, even though they are currently on a U.S. tour (most of the current dates are sold out, however). Tickets for the October dates go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. local time. “Mercedes Marxist” will be released on 7-inch on August 2, with the new song “I Dream Guillotine” as the B-side. Singer Joe Talbot had this to say about the song in a press release: “‘Mercedes Marxist’ was a strange beast for us, after ‘Rottweiler,’ it was the first song we wrote for Joy as an Act of Resistance. I was pissed off at what I was and where I was: I was sofa surfing on the weekends and spending the weeks looking after my mum. My life balance was way off and this song reflects just how useless I felt. It was me at my worst and without any buoyancy it became catharsis. It was the last splurge from Brutalism so we omitted it. I like it now.”
