Ivan Reitman Confirms He’ll Direct Ghostbusters 3
Original Cast Is Back Too
Still bummed about the whole Spider-Man reboot? Hot on the heels of the demise of Spiderman 4 is news that another franchise won’t fall quite so quickly. Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!
As reported by MTV‘s movie blog, Ivan Reitman, the director of the first two Ghostbusters movies, has confirmed that he’ll be directing the long-in-the-works third movie, which is being planned for 2011. The original cast have all signed on and Year One writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky at work on the second draft. Meanwhile, star Sigournery Weaver tells MTV that “Bill Murray’s character Pete Venkman might appear in the movie as a slimer ghost.”
Of course, since most of the original Ghostbusters are approaching retirement age (Wonder what kind of pension “we ain’t afraid of no ghosts!” gets you.) the Ghostbusters will be fleshed out with of some new blood who Weaver goes on to speculate may include, Oscar, her character’s son with Venkman from the second movie. Now, if they can only get Ray Parker, Jr. back on board…
