American Epic Airing This Fall

Jack White
This October Jack White will team up with legendary producer T Bone Burnett and actor/director Robert Redford to present a three-part documentary series titled, American Epic. Directed by Bernard MacMahon and airing on PBS and BBC Arena, the series will trace the events that led record companies to explore rural America in the 1920s for new sounds, resulting in a wave of now classic folk, blues, country and ethnic songs. “These recordings were the first time America heard itself,” says MacMahon in an interview with The New York Times. “It is like the DNA of America, its raw expression.”
In addition to the documentary, White, Burnett, and Redford will also release The American Epic Sessions, a feature-length film capturing modern artists such as White, Elton John, Willie Nelson, Beck, Alabama Shakes, and many others recording on equipment recreated from the bygone era. A soundtrack from the film will also be released.
