Japanese Breakfast Announces New Album, Shares “Machinist” Video
Soft Sounds From Another Planet Due Out July 14 via Dead Oceans
Japanese Breakfast (aka Michelle Zauner) has announced her sophomore album, Soft Sounds From Another Planet, and shared a video for its first single, "Machinist." Soft Sounds From Another Planet is due out July 14 via Dead Oceans. "Machinist" is a danceable first single that ends with a sax solo. Zauner self-directed the sci-fi themed video. Watch it below, followed by the album's tracklist and her upcoming tour dates.
The album is the follow-up to 2016's well-received debut, Psychopomp. A press release says Soft Sounds From Another Planet "is a work of self-reflection that looks out at the cosmos in search of healing, finding inspiration in science fiction, outer space, and the Mars One Project."
Zauner had this to say about the "Machinist" video in a press release: "the song is a sci-fi narrative about a woman who falls in love with a robot. In the video she hallucinates on rocket fuel and tears apart her spaceship in an attempt to build a body for her robot lover."
