Jarvis Cocker to Release Lyrics Book
Watch Video of Cocker Discussing Mother, Brother, Lover: Selected Lyrics
Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker is set to release a book of his lyrics, Mother, Brother, Lover: Selected Lyrics, due out in October via Faber & Faber. It's not hard to argue that Cocker is one the wittiest, and flat out greatest, lyricists of the last two decades. In the video below, Cocker sat down with Faber & Faber's publishing director Lee Brackstone to discuss his ideas and experiences writing lyrics.
Cocker discusses how his style developed, including how he at first would try to be profound and find the answer to a problem all within a song, and then how he had a breakthrough when he started writing about everyday things. The interview shows his passion and can be appreciated by anyone from the diehard Pulp fan to the struggling artist looking for inspiration.
Pulp have recently reformed and are performing at European festivals this summer. Fingers crossed that a U.S. tour will be announced at some point.
