Last October John Maus released a new album, Screen Memories, via Ribbon Music. Maus previously announced a career-spanning 6-LP vinyl box set that contains all his albums, including Screen Memories and another new album, Addendum. The box set is due out April 20, but now Maus has announced that Addendum will also get a standalone release on CD and digital on May 18 via Ribbon Music (the vinyl version will remain exclusive it the box set). He has also shared one of its songs, “Episode.” Listen to it below, followed by the album’s tracklist and cover art, as well as Maus’ upcoming tour dates.

Maus has also announced a special New York City show called The Sucrose Plane that will take place on May 4th at 6pm EST at Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park in Coney Island. It will be part of the Red Bull Music Festival New York. Here’s the official description of the event: “On Friday, May 4th, John Maus will be bringing his visceral and haunting take on synth-pop to Coney Island for what he’s calling The Sucrose Plane: an event where he will perform with his band as well as compose music to play within select rides at Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park in conjunction with Red Bull Music Festival. The night will last from 6pm until Midnight at the family owned and New York City landmark, which features attractions like Spook-A-Rama, Stop the Zombies!, Thunderbolt, and their iconic 150 foot Wonder Wheel. Additional artist and entertainment to be announced in the coming weeks.”

There was around a six-year gap between Screen Memories and its predecessor, 2011’s well-received third album, We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves. A previous press release explained what Maus had been up to in between the albums, since releasing We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves and 2012’s rarities album, A Collection of Rarities and Previously Unreleased Material: “After touring in support of the album, and releasing a collection of rarities and unreleased tracks, Maus receded from the public spotlight, returning to his academic pursuits. Years later, after completing his doctorate in Political Philosophy, he began building his own modular synthesizers, etching the printed circuit boards, soldering components, and assembling panels, until he had an instrument that matched his vision.”
