Kevin Morby released an excellent album, Singing Saw, just last year via Dead Oceans, but he's already released a new one, City Music, back in June also via Dead Oceans. Now he has shared a new song, "Baltimore," in two different versions. "Baltimore (Sky At Night)" was recorded during the Singing Saw sessions, while "Baltimore (County Line)" was recorded during the City Music sessions. All proceeds from the sale of the "Baltimore" digital single will benefit the local Baltimore non-profit Believe In Music, whose vision is "to transform Baltimore's children into advocates for their community by providing a platform for them to tell their own stories." Listen to both versions below.

Morby had this to say about the some and the charity in a press release: "I love Baltimore. It is a city with a giant heart and has remained one of my favorite places to keep returning to on tour. It is unique and beautiful and you can't mistake it for anywhere else in the world - Baltimore is one hundred percent Baltimore. All proceeds from both my and the label side will go to the Believe In Music education program, which provides "an innovative music education for Baltimore's youth". I do hope you enjoy both versions of the song and if you do decide to donate - thank you for contributing to what I believe to be a great cause.
"I wrote Baltimore at the time I was conceiving both Singing Saw and City Music and recorded a version during both sessions with two different bands. I love the song dearly, but in the end thought that thematically it didn't belong on either album, and thus have been waiting for this moment to release it as what it has always been meant to be - a single."

Believe In Music issued this statement: "Believe in Music is so grateful to generous and talented Kevin Morby for the donation of proceeds from his new release, 'Baltimore.' We feel strongly that both versions of the song reflect the character and unique vibe of Baltimore City. Having the support of successful, working musicians is incredibly meaningful for our students as they aspire to succeed through an education in music."

Believe in Music's full mission statement is as follows: "Our vision is to transform Baltimore's children into advocates for their community by providing a platform for them to tell their own stories. Our mission is empowering youth with self-expression and community engagement through music and technology education. Through the artistic expression of their culture, struggles, and triumphs, students will develop the tools crucial to academic achievement and career advancement."

Previously Morby shared a lyric video for City Music's first single, "Come to Me Now," announced a world tour in support of City Music, shared another song from the album, "1234," and shared a video for the album's title track, "City Music." He then shared a video for "Downtown Lights." He also shared a new song not found on either album, "Bag of Rats," as part of the "Our First 100 Days" anti-Donald Trump project.

City Music is Morby's fourth album. A previous press release described it as "full of listless wanderlust, it's a collection inspired by and devoted to the metropolitan experience across America and beyond by a songwriter cast from his own mold."

Morby’s fourth studio collection was recorded with his live band, with guitarist Meg Duffy taking note of: “We as a whole chipped away at the following record together, pretty cooperatively as far as orchestrating and playing. We spent seven days in a wonderful studio, up close Stinson Beach.
