Kevin Shields Blames the Government For Britpop
Jarvis Cocker = Secret Agent Man?
Oct 03, 2013 My Bloody Valentine
So, Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine has a theory. It goes something like this—Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn were Labour Party supporters who often visited the government headquarters at 10 Downing street thus, (drum roll please)…the Britpop movement was a government conspiracy.
Says Shields in an interview with The Guardian: “Britpop was massively pushed by the government…Someday it would be interesting to read all the MI5 files on Britpop. The wool was pulled right over everyone’s eyes there.”
Wait…does that mean Jarvis Cocker, who once wrote a song about the fate of “Common People,” was a secret agent? Ooh, well played British government. Well played.
